Welcome, seeker of understanding.  Know that you are not alone in your search for understanding – people have been confused over each others messages since man first began.

There seems to be two reasons why you would take a ticket needing understanding.  One, you are confused about something – a subject or thought seems to be out of your grasp of understanding.  Two, you are having a problem being understood – a thought or feeling just isn’t getting across to another party.  Regardless of which group you fall into, confusion and frustration are the result.

I want to tell you a story that relates to both of those situations.  Once, long ago, King Solomon was writing his advice to his son who was to become the king of one of the richest and most powerful kingdoms in the world at the time.  When it came to the thought of understanding, Solomon said this:

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.

Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.

See what Solomon said there?  If you seek understanding, look for it as if it were a hidden treasure (think Indiana Jones!) you will find it.  And it comes via the Word of God, which in turn turns to wisdom, which leads to understanding.

What is the result?  Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.  Isn’t that amazing? The very thing you seek will become your guardian!  So, keep on seeking understanding.  Seek it as if it were the most important thing.  Learn everything you can so you can understand, and keep up the faith.
